Read widely
Read primary and secondary research. Read around your topic and shoulder topics, those that are closely related to your field of study.
Make lots of notes
Before you start you should make lots of notes. Don’t worry if the notes are disorganized or on separate pieces of paper. Use voice notes, Google docs, screenshots – anything to get your ideas down on paper. At this stage you are concerned with getting the ideas down, not in organising them. That is the next step.
Make a mind map
Many people are visual learners and process information better and more effectively visually. Use a large piece of paper to map out your thoughts: we recommend using artist’s sketch paper for this.
